What does magnesium do in the body?
Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a role in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body. These reactions allow our bodies to regulate everyday activities such as breaking down food and pumping blood through your heart. Below are some ways that magnesium helps you on a daily basis.
Our cells need energy to function. When we eat, food is broken down and carbohydrates, fats and proteins enter the cell. There they are turned into fuel and used as building blocks to make new enzymes and proteins. To use these nutrients as energy, magnesium helps with the production of ATP, the process by which cells create energy stores.
